The Two Year Reunion
Two years ago I was wearing a goofy black robe and shaking hands with my college president as “Andrew Brum” echoed off the hills of Pepperdine on graduation day.

For the record, it’s “Brumme”, like “Tummy” or “Dummy”. Say it with me now…“Brummeeeeeee”. To the announcer’s credit, he did pretty well with some tough names. Just not mine.

Two years ago. That’s a long time.

So long, in fact, that it was time to rally the troops again and catch up on life. At the urging of the McPherson Clan – those of us in the Southern California area gathered for a BBQ Extravaganza a few weeks ago.

I hadn’t seen many of the folks since we graduated. And as I mentioned, that was a long time ago. Two years. Much has happened since then.

Some were different. Some were not.

Some were married. Some were not.

But all of us are now two years older. And life continues to move on. We’re scattered about, doing various things. Most of us are probably not where we expected to be two years after graduation.

Take me for example: Living in the middle of the California desert where old folks retire, working as an admin assistant (otherwise known as an administrative monkey). I can’t say I called this one two years ago…

But I have learned a few minor things, like the fact that my life is not my own. And that even when you’re in the midst of a barren desert with no way out in sight, God is absolutely trustworthy and utterly faithful. And that joy has absolutely nothing to do with my circumstances. Just a few little things I’ve picked up since coming to the desert (and believe me, they weren’t learned overnight and I am still learning that these things really are true!)

Oh yeah, I’ve also learned that 120 degree temperatures suck, even if it is just a “dry heat”. And that lots of old folks waste the final years of their lives playing golf and sitting around. And that it’s quite fun to laugh out loud at yourself when you’re all alone.

All this and more from two years of post-college life. It’s been a road full of surprises and unexpected turns. And the journey continues…so stay tuned to Brummeeeeeee.com…because this weak post is bound to be replaced sometime soon!
