So Much to Say...That Others Have Already Said
My apologies! Sadly, it's been over 2 weeks - 15 days to be exact - since I last blogged here.

I've begun and then given up on several different blog topics tonight as I thought through these past weeks. Much is happening around the world and during this holiday season...
  • the "Merry Christmas War" (doesn't get me excited)
  • the "Intelligent Design" debate (what do I really have to say?)
  • Narnia (already blogged about it)
  • The Pope Really is Santa Claus (like anyone is surprised)
But at last, I settled on a worthy topic, especially given it hits on a particular interest of mine. So as I "dug in" and began writing, I realized this is one of those (many) times when someone else has said the very thing I would say, and at the same time is more articulate and interesting than I could ever be.

So then, humbly, I am listing my thoughts on churches that are closed on Christmas, as articulated by the fellow bloggers (who I don't always agree with) at StupidChurchPeople.com:
No Church This Christmas!
Many mega-churches across the country will be closed this Sunday in observance of Christmas Day. Big time churches like Willow Creek Church in IL, Fellowship Church in TX, Mars Hill Church in MI and North Point Community in GA are all shutting down for Jesus' birthday. (Please note that Saddleback Church isn't on this list, once again proving that it is God's One True Church for America)

So with all the hub-bub about this decision over the past few weeks (I know this is an old story, but I am slow), here's what I got to thinking today.

Maybe people from these churches (and others like them) will stay at home with their families this Sunday and realize that they really didn't miss anything at all. That God is still God, that Jesus was still a part of their lives, that spending time as a family is actually an act of worship that pleases God and that they can do this each and every week of the year, not just once every blue moon or so when Christmas Day falls on Sunday.

Maybe a Christmas miracle will occur and no one will go back to these mega-churches on January 1, 2006. It could happen, couldn't it? Do you believe in Christmas miracles? I do!

By the way... Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
Please forgive this flagrant plagarism, the offensive title of the blog quoted above, and those last few sentences as they don't entirely express my thoughts. That said, you can stay tuned for more of my actual thoughts in the coming weeks and months - particularly on my humble study of the church, which believe it or not, is coming along. I've been saying that for nearly half a year now, but am still pressing ahead.

Enough fine print - have a Merry Christmas! (And feel free to "be" the church this Sunday, even if you aren't in a church building!)
